Scarborough Athletic picked up their first win of pre-season on Tuesday night when they bagged a 1-0 success at AFC Mansfield.
A single Bryan Hughes header was enough to wrap up the victory, which came after defeats for Boro against strong Halifax Town and Hull City sides.
Funk fielded two sides on the night and both created plenty of chances against the Central Midlands League outfit.
As well as Hughes’ effort, Josh Greening also went close with a header as Boro could have turned the screw.
The Boro chief said: “It was a great workout for all of our lads on the night.
“We created some excellent chances and there were plenty of glimpses of a side that is coming together.
“It is unfair to highlight particular players, but a number of the lads are really starting to show their quality.”
Boro had a blow before the game as their kit didn’t show up in time, but after that everything went right on the night.
Funk added: “It was a bit of a difficult start because the kit wasn’t there so we had to borrow Mansfield’s away kit.
“Things turned out really well though and it was so nice for me to come back and enjoy another game of football in these parts.”
