Boss Mancrief confident ahead of Teesside challenge

The representative side warmed up for their foray into cup action with a 3-2 win against the York League at Pickering Town and Mancrief is hoping for a repeat performance at Thornaby next week.

Mancrief said: “We are confident of getting a win.

“I believe their manager runs Whinney Bank and from what I hear he has picked a lot of his own players.

“We have a very strong team and picked up a good win against York League at Pickering Town last year.

“It’s great that we are entering this competition, it is long overdue.”

The Newlands manager has selected six of his own players, including keeper Callum Myers and midfielder Danny Jenkinson, who captains the side.

Whitby Fisherman’s stopper Paul Cull will be vying for the number one spot with Myers and two players from division two are included as Athletico2B’s Shaun Dodson and Benn Sullivan of Whitby RFC are in the squad.

Mancrief added: “Shaun (Dodson) was man of the match against the York League and Neil and Gary Thomas and Stefan Moon are options too.

“Ben Briggs and Ricky Tomlinson from Filey Town are in and they’ll be pushing for a starting spot too.”
