Coulson disappointed by first half showing

Scarborough League Select XI boss Alec Coulson was a disappointed man after Saturday’s crushing defeat against Scarborough Athletic at Silver Royd.

After a bright start to the fixture, Coulson’s men suffered the full brunt of Boro’s attacking play, with the Evo-Stik League club running out 7-0 winners.

Coulson said: “I am disappointed because in the first half we didn’t do ourselves justice, we let in some sloppy goals.

“We had a few words at the break, defended a little bit deeper and we improved a lot.

“We could possibly have nicked one, but I was pleased with our performance in the second half.

“I was delighted with our start to the game, we went at them and had a few half-chances.

“Billy Logan and Gaz Thomas both went close, but we let in a goal that went through the keeper’s hands and that was that.

“For me I though Gaz and Danny Jenkinson did very well. They are both fit lads and were up and down the pitch throughout. I also thought Ricky Greening did his bit.”

Coulson enjoyed his second outing as manager of the select side, though he has admitted that the selection process isn’t the easiest.

He added: “I want to thank Steve Roberts for helping me again. It is hard to pick a squad of 16 because everyone has their own views.

“You can’t keep people happy all of the time, if anyone else wants to have a go then they should put their name forward to the committee.

“I enjoy doing it though. I’m not manager of Edgehill anymore so it is nice to keep my face in there and stay involved in local football.”
