There has been a lot made of England boss Roy Hodgson’s half-time comments towards Andros Townsend.

His comments were taken out of context, yes, but the most disappointing thing to come out of the situation is the fact it was leaked out by a member of the squad.

From what I hear it was one of the fringe players in the squad, so there is every chance they will have blown their place on the plane to Brazil.

It must be very disappointing for Hodgson to see one of his players leaking stuff like this to the press.

Hopefully that will be that now. The FA backed him and rightly so and now we can move on.

It is good to see Scarborough Athletic picking up one or two better results.

They beat Rainworth 4-0 on Tuesday night and it looks like they’ve got over their difficult start and are going to push on now.

Maybe this will end up being a consolidation season for Boro.

They’re getting used to the extra travelling and coming up against slightly better sides, and that takes time.

It was interesting to see the snippets of Sir Alex Ferguson’s new autobiography.

While it’s exciting to hear these behind the scenes stories, it is also disappointing to see Sir Alex come out and reveal all about certain relationships and fall-outs he had.

I know Roy Keane and David Beckham won’t be very happy with what Ferguson has written and said this week.

I don’t think there will be a player out there that hasn’t fallen out with a manager at some point, but sometimes it is best kept behind closed doors.

The rugby league world cup gets under way this week.

I see they’re playing some of the games at Rochdale’s Spotland ground. I hope they enjoy better weather than I used to experience everytime I went to Rochdale.

I don’t think you can look past England, Australia and New Zealand as the favourites.

PERFORMANCE OF THE WEEK:

Italy’s rugby league side, who beat England for the first time in their world cup warm-up match.

QUOTE OF THE WEEK:

“I remember having conversations about loyalty when I was at the club and I don’t think he knows the meaning of the word.”
