THE top two sides in the division one table turned their attentions to the Scarborough & District FA Cup quarter-finals on a damp and muddy afternoon.

And both sides were in fine form as the brushed aside their challengers to set up a tantalising semi-final clash against each other.

Second-placed West Pier took on Seamer at Sherburn and played some superb football on a difficult surface in the first half, as they went in 3-1 up at the break.

Their first came courtesy of a towering Steve Sheader header from a Jamie Bradshaw corner after Seamer had soaked up some severe pressure from Andy Spivey’s men in the opening 20 minutes.

Pier were 2-0 up when Tommy Barker had a succession of three shots saved by the keeper and Daz Crawford was on hand to head in on the rebound, before Bradshaw again teed up a goal, this time finding striker Mike Hartnett to bury Pier’s third.

Seamer netted just before the break to make it 3-1, but an own goal on the hour mark ended the contest and Pier cruised home, despite the sending-off of influential centre-half Sheader.

Sheader could now miss Pier’s massive semi-final tie with rivals Edgehill, who were in scintillating form to beat a dangerous Cayton outfit.

Edgehill were 1-0 up after 20 minutes when Dave Bell latched on to a through ball and squared back to Ryan Jackson to score.

A brilliant Lee Cappleman free-kick from 25-yards made it 2-0 before Ricky Nock’s superb cross found Luke Jenkinson, who made no mistake to send his side into half-time three goals to the good.

Jenkinson was again in the action when he netted after beating a couple of men to complete a 4-0 win and seal a place in the last four for Alec Coulson’s men.

Edgehill manager Coulson picked out centre-back Leigh Watson as his man of the match after the contest for a composed performance at the heart of the defence.

The big games keep coming for the league leaders, who are on their travels with a tricky tie at Kirkbymoorside Reserves in the North Riding FA County Cup semi-final clash nn Saturday.
