Scarborough Athletic frontman Lewis Clarkson is a player in demand according to the national press.

The tabloids have reported that Clarkson’s recent burst of form has caught the eye of a number of teams from the upper echelons of English football.

The former Hull City man, who has struck nine in five starts for the club, is supposedly interesting Leeds United, Scunthorpe United and Grimbsy Town, while club sources have also said that Premiership Everton are keen.

No official approach has been made to Boro, though Clarkson’s stock does seem to be rising.

Speculation has also been focusing on whether Clarkson has been offered a contract by Boro, though the club refused to comment on this.

Boss Rudy Funk has been surprised by the news surrounding Clarkson.

“It is news to me,” he said.

“Lewis is a good player who is playing well at the moment, obviously the reported interest is very flattering for him.

“He is no different to any other young player though, he needs to learn his trade before he progresses.

“Lewis is doing extremely well, but so are a lot of players at the moment.

“He has scored a few great goals, so whether this is true or not, it is nice for him and nice for the club.”
