Scarborough Athletic boss Rudy Funk described himself as over the moon with the FA’s decision to move his club from the Evo-Stik South to the Evo-Stik North for the 2014-15 season.
Funk joked: “We are like the Romans. We tried to conquer the south and now we will try to do the same in the north.”
“I am over the moon with the switch, how many clubs at this level can say that they have played almost in London one season and the next they have played near Newcastle,” he added.
“We have been able to treat one set of fans in the south and now we can do the same in the north.
“Of course there will be supporters who can’t make it to matches because of the extra distance that they may have to travel, but then hopefully they will get themselves down to every home game to back us.
“We are all upbeat about the news and now we are looking forward to another exciting season of good football.”
Funk and his assistants Bryan Hughes and Paul Foot already have a number of players in mind to boost the Boro ranks next season and the manager has underlined that the move won’t alter any of these plans.
“It won’t mean us changing our attention to different players because if anyone wants to play at a wonderful level for a wonderful club then they will make the commitment.
“There will be no adjustments made for players who live in Nottingham or players that live in York. I will be doing the mileage and because of that so will they.”
