Scarborough Athletic boss Rudy Funk was hugely disappointed by the postponement of Saturday’s game between his travelling side and Maltby Main.
The NCEL Premier clash was called off just an hour and 45 minutes before kick off after West Yorkshire referee Colin Whitaker deemed the pitch too wet for play.
By this point Funk had already been at the ground for just short of two hours, he, the players and the Maltby officials were all agreed that the Muglet Lane surface was playable.
A number of Boro fans had also made the lengthy journey to South Yorkshire.
He said: “It is hugely disappointing that the game is off.
“I thought the pitch was playable, so did both sets of players and officials. The man in charge came down though, made his decision and that was that.
“I had been there for a long while before the referee had arrived and there was not a drop of rain, so it just leaves you wondering why?
“I suppose you have to look on the brightside though. We have a number of bumps and bruises at the moment, so the postponement will give a few of the lads a little longer to recover.”
Boro midfielder James Bennett was also a little fortunate, as he forgot the club’s matchballs for the game.
Funk added: “It was James’ turn to bring the balls and he forgot them. So he breathed a big sigh of relief when the game was postponed.”
