Scarborough Athletic boss Rudy Funk was more than happy with Saturday’s 1-0 defeat of NCEL Premier strugglers Winterton.
Boro missed a host of chances on the day, but Funk felt that it was the one goal and the three points that mattered.
He said: “This is the fourth time I have been to Winterton with Scarborough and that is the first time we have won, so that tells me that we are making some progress.
“We moved the ball around and created some amazing chances, but their keeper Steve Wibberley was always in the way.
“You have to give Winterton credit because they are a young side who have had plenty of heartache this season.
“We stuck at this though, clean-sheet one goal, three points, happy man.”
Funk was impressed with Boro’s two new faces in goalscoring centre-back Sam Denton and lively wide man Ollie Banks.
He added: “You know what you get with Sam. He is a no-nonsense defender who wins his battles all day long.
“Ollie made things a little more exciting on the right with his twisting and turning and his great deilvery.
“It was a good performance across the board though, which was good for me and good for our supporters.
“We have to build on this win now, we must continue picking up the points and see how we go from there.”
