SCARBOROUGH Athletic have unveiled Rudy Funk as their new manager.
Funk’s appointment comes just one day after Paul Olsson left the NCEL Premier club by mutual consent.
He had started the season at Rainworth, before dropping down two divisions to NCEL first division outfit Shirebrook Town just before Christmas.
Funk led Rainworth to three promotions in five-and-a-half seasons at the Nottinghamshire club.
He took them from the Central Midlands League to the Evo-Stik League.
The Mansfield-based manager saw off the challenge of a handful of other applicants to land the Boro top role.
Acting chairman Dave Holland said: “The board is confident that Rudy fulfils all criteria we set ourselves, and he carries with him an exemplary recent proven track record of non-league knowledge and success at Rainworth.
“He has the ability to attract quality players to the club.
“Rudy fulfils our conditions for operating within a tight financial and logistical framework, respects the club, loves the fans and has the ambition, the professionalism and the strength of character to take the club forward.
“Rudy has utterly convinced us of his passion for the club, and we feel he will become a popular choice with our fan base.
“He will be meeting up with the players before the Pickering Town game tomorrow and we hope everyone can get behind him and the team as we enter a new and exciting era.
“The club is grateful to the other parties who have expressed an interest in this post.
Meanwhile, striker Richard Medcalf and defender Mike Gibson have both left the club.
The pair have signed for Barton Town, who ply their trade a division below in the NCEL first division.
Medcalf rejoined Boro after Christmas following a spell at Barton, while Gibson was snapped up by former boss Brian France from Hall Road Rangers last term.
Both deals were done on the NCEL’s deadline day.
Former Scarborough Athletic and Scarborough Football Club defender Michael Price also made a last-gasp move, as he signed for Hall Road Rangers after a spell with Evo-Stik North outfit Goole.
