Scarborough Athletic boss Rudy Funk laughed off any rumours that long-serving skipper Tony Hackworth might be leaving the club.
Gossip over the weekend suggested that the former Leeds, Notts County and Scarborough FC attacker was poised to make the move to NCEL Premier side Tadcaster, but this chatter brought a big smile to Funk’s face.
Hackworth has been a key player for Boro since joining from Whitby Town in 2011. He played a huge part last year in forcing Boro over the NCEL promotion line, scoring 20 goals in the process.
“It is just rubbish, I laugh about rumours like that,” said Funk.
“Tony signed on for us on Saturday and I had a long chat with him about his injury and other things. He is absolutely buzzing about the season and he can’t wait to get going.
“Tony Hackworth is a Scarborough player - end of story.”
