Grimsby Town boss Paul Hurst believes that Scarborough Athletic striker Lewis Clarkson could by-pass their division and sign for a bigger club.
Grimsby were one of a number of clubs said to be linked with the former Hull City attacker, who has burst onto the scene at Boro in the Evo-Stik South.
Hurst rubbished speculation linking Grimsby with Clarkson, though he has vowed to keep an eye on him.
He said: “I am aware of Lewis because his name came up in conversation last week, but we’re not interested and we haven’t watched him.
“Stuart Watkiss knows him from his time at Hull and said that he’d been scoring goals but that’s as far as it got – I can honestly say there’s no interest there.
“Who knows what might happen if he keeps scoring goals but if he does that, I don’t think he’ll be coming to Grimsby Town, he’ll probably go higher.
“But you always keep your eye on goalscorers and it’s very easy to be linked with players when they’re at the top of the charts.
“I’ll keep my eye on him, but it might be that he bypasses our league.”
