A NEW-LOOK Angel side paid the price for missing a string of scoring chances in their 1-1 draw against Ayton at Oliver’s Mount.

One of the new signings, Daniel Gregory, opened the scoring for Angel after only 15 minutes.

Dave Lawty’s initial shot was blocked by Ayton keeper Damon Gormley, Gregory fired in the rebound which Gormley saved once again, but it was third time unlucky for the goalie as Gregory reacted quickest and placed his shot into the top corner of the net.

Gregory then missed a clear chance to make it 2-0, the striker volleying over with only Gormley to beat after a Lawty shot had rebounded back off the bar.

After the break, Gregory hit the post with a shot and a Lawty effort was saved by Gormley, and these missed chances proved costly as Dan Pollard tapped in from close range to level the scores.

Centre-back Daniel Sanderson was a tower of strength on his Angel debut, winning the man-of-the-match award, while his Ayton counterpart Neil Fraser was on top form for the villagers.
