Scarborough Athletic joint-manager Bryan Hughes believes that Wednesday night’s 4-0 friendly defeat at Thackley was still a good exercise for his side.
Hughes was frustrated by some of the defending as an understrength Boro were well-beaten by their NCEL opponents, but he felt that he learned plenty from the test.
“It was sloppy, we gave them all four of their goals,” said Hughes.
“Overall we just should have been better than that with the players we had on the pitch.
“It was always going to be hard with three games in six days, maybe that took its toll on a few of the lads, especially when we had a some away through illness and other reasons.
“This was a useful exercise though because it is all preparation for when the season actually gets underway.”
Fellow boss Paul Foot added: “We definitely learned a few things on the night, which is what pre-season is all about.
“On the night Thackley just wanted it that little bit more, which was interesting to see from our point of view.”
