Young Boro keeper Rory Skelton has been left baffled by manager Steve Kittrick's comments that he was injured for the weekend clash against Witton Albion.

Skelton took to Twitter to dispute Kittrick's claims that he was unavailable for selection for the Witton clash that Boro lost 2-1.

The statement read: "Reading what I've read in the paper today I would like to have my say.

"I would like to say that I was not working this Saturday and was fit and available to play. I got a phone call Friday night from the manager saying I was not in the squad and asking if I'd stay away from the ground.

"I would like to make clear that I don't have a problem with being dropped or not picked as football is football.

"I'm very unhappy that I've been made out to be someone that has let the club down when I've been involved since I was 15, and feel that my commitment has been questioned when I have been nothing but loyal.

"Thanks to all the fans for their support and kind comments."

In this week's Kittrick's Comments column the Boro boss had said: "A lot has been said on the internet about the situation with our under-21 keeper Rory Skelton and why he hasn't played in our last two games.

"Nobody at the club has anything derogatory to say about Rory, he is a great lad.

"He informed the club that due to work commitments he was no longer able to play for the under-21s or the first team this season, so as far as we were concerned that was that. Because of this we had to go out and sign a keeper on emergency loan."
