Scarborough & District Saturday League chairman Alan Burnett has condemned the behaviour of an Eastway supporter, who ran on the pitch and attacked referee Bill Pashby at tonight's League Trophy final.

A feisty encounter was heading into the last eight minutes when a supporter ran onto the field during a break in play and assaulted veteran ref Pashby, who was floored and stayed grounded for over 10 minutes before being stretchered off the field.

An ambulance and the police were called to Pickering Town's Mill Lane ground and Pashby received treatment for an injured shoulder.

Burnett told The Scarborough News: "That was a very, very sad end to a cup final.

"We condemn this behaviour as a league, there's no place for actions like this at any level of football, let alone grassroots leagues."

Burnett confirmed the league committee will meet to discuss possible ramifications for Eastway Sports FC.

"The committee will be meeting to discuss what actions are to be taken, once we find the name of the perpetrator," added Burnett.

"It's my belief that the police have been handed his name."
