Murray will be training with Conference North side FC United of Manchester in pre-season, though he hasn’t ruled out a return to Queensgate if things don’t work out.

The 20-year-old joined Boro towards the end of last season from York City and caught the eye with a number of lively performances.

“The only reason I am leaving Scarborough is because I’m young and I want to push back up to play at the highest level I can,” said Murray.

“FC United are a club going in the right direction, but I’ll have to see what happens in pre-season and take it from there.

“They have got a few more lads in for pre-season, so I’ll be doing my bit to impress because there are a few games coming up.

“I’ve spoken to Bryan Hughes and he said that the door wasn’t closed to me. I really enjoyed my time at Scarborough, so if it doesn’t work out at FC United then I’d obviously be keen to come back.”

Murray added: “Scarborough are a club that do things the right way, it is a perfect place to go if you are dropping out of the pro game.

“They get it down, play good football, Bryan and Paul are doing a great job.

“It is hard to say whether they’ll go up next season, but I’m backing them to be right in there.

“Salford and Darlington are both out of the way now, but we were unlucky to lose to both of those sides last season.

“They will have a chance, especially with the new lads that have been brought in.”
