Scarborough Athletic boss Rudy Funk won’t be making any rash promises ahead of the forthcoming NCEL Premier campaign.
Funk revealed at the weekend’s fans forum and kit launch that he has already concluded talks with six new players and that each of last term’s squad members would also be available when pre-season kicks off on June 28.
Boro then start their friendly programme on July 8 with a clash against Eastfield, with the season getting underway at the beginning of August.
He said: “I did say last season that we would be looking to get out of the league, but we’ll be phrasing things in a different way this term - we will be challenging for honours.
“The way the league is structured does make it difficult for every side because to gain promotion you have to finish in top spot.
“It is an exciting time now because there has been so much hard work that has been done behind the scenes, we can really start looking forward to the future.
“We finished third last season on a less-than-great budget, but because we have stabilised things will be a lot different this time around.
“In the past we have had players turning up and playing, now there is going to be a real battle for every shirt.”
Funk was also positive about the weekend’s gathering, which took place at the Cask.
He added: “It was a magical evening for the club.
“A good number of fans turned out on the night to ask the questions and each one of them were more than happy with the new kit.
“Many of the fans purchased items on the night, which was great for the club. I also bought three shirts because you have to lead by example.”
