Scholes Park Raiders under-16s had a taste of the FA Cup when they visited Hillsborough last weekend for Sheffield Wednesday’s fourth round cup clash with Hereford United.

The Raiders, who play in the Scarborough and District Minor League, first had a full personalised tour of Hillsborough, learning about the team and the ground.

The team then had a full two-hour coaching session on Wednesday’s first-team training ground by their Academy managers.

The lads were worked hard but did well and impressed the coaches. A Wednesday youth team scout confirmed that he will come and watch the team in Scarborough in the near future, in the hope of signing some players on.

After lunch the lads got changed into their Scholes kits as they went onto the pitch to give a guard of honour for the Owls and Hereford players before the game, which also saw them included on the ITV FA Cup highlights programme on Saturday night. The boys brought good luck to the Owls, with the hosts winning 4-1 to get through to the fifth round.

The team all enjoyed their day and James Moore, Scholes’ left winger said: “I had a brilliant day and hope to perform well again when the scouts come to visit.”
