PICKERING Town picked up a confidence-boosting 7-2 NCEL Premier victory on Saturday which eases them nicely into this weekend’s FA Vase battle at home to Team Northumbria.
The Pikes hit the goalscoring trail against Lincoln, with Liam Shepherd and Liam Salt both scoring twice, the others came from ex-Brid Town ace Joe Danby, Steve Baxter and former Edgehill and Scarborough Town star Dean Craig.
Despite this boss Jimmy Reid wasn’t the happiest manager, as he felt his side should have reached double-figures.
He said: “It isn’t often you get the chance to boost your goal difference like that, we should have scored 14 and we should have kept a clean-sheet.
“Lincoln are like wounded soldiers and we should have taken advantage of that. We should have passed the ball better and we should have taken a few more chances.”
Reid has now switched his attentions to this weekend’s Northern League opponents in the Vase, who will have former Pike James Gunn and ex-Newcastle United academy striker Ben Sayer in their squad.
He added: “We beat Billingham in the last round of the FA Vase and Team Northumbria beat them 3-0 on Saturday in their league clash, so it should be an interesting one.
“There is a big carrot for the winner of this weekend’s encounter because they will be playing Durham City in the next round of the Vase, it will be nice to get through but obviously we’ll have to play well.”
