RUDY FUNK: Fans must be patient about Weaponness sports village

I’ve heard there have been some comments made to The Scarborough News regarding the delays in building the Weaponness Leisure Village.

I would like to personally, hand on heart, guarantee the fans of Scarborough Athletic that we will get there eventually and I urge you to have some patience.

It is very disappointing that there have been delays to the project, but I would rather wait a little bit longer and make sure we get it right.

The players don’t hear everything that goes on with the project or see all the hard work that goes on behind the scenes.

We have five people from the club who work tirelessly behind the scenes to keep me updated on the progress.

It’s not just a case of the council delaying things, there are more things at play here than that.

There are the people building it and the people planning it, everything has to come together.

Yes, we all want to be back in Scarborough. I feel for the fans who have to travel through the Bridlington to watch us play.

It must be a stress on them, and will also cost them a lot of money.

I have nothing but admiration for them though. I really do sympathise with them, but they will all be over the moon when the facility opens and they can walk down to Weaponness and watch us play.

As manager of the football club, I give you my word we will get there, these things just take time.
