Saturday League: Division three and cup reports - Hartnett bags four as Scalby make progress

Scalby striker Mike Hartnett was in fine form as he netted four times to help Kev David’s men to League Trophy progress, while there were wins for Whitby RFC and Rillington.

LEAGUE TROPHY

SLEIGHTS RESERVES 0 SCALBY 6 (Hartnett 4, C Townley 2, one pen)

Kev David’s Scalby side cruised past Sleights Reserves to make progress in the League Trophy, with striker Mike Hartnett in fine form.

Hartnett, a summer acquisition from West Pier, bagged a first-half hat-trick to give his side a 3-0 lead at the break.

Midfielder Carl Townley bundled in from a corner before planting a penalty in the back of the net to make it 5-0 before Hartnett wrapped things up from the edge of the box.

Scalby’s Dan Wedge stood out at left-back, with Hartnett catching the eye in front of goal.

LEAGUE CUP

ATHLETICO 2B 4 (Goodwin 2, Day 2) RILLINGTON 6 (Sanderson 3, Penny 2, Dring) aet

Athletico2B through away a 4-1 lead to eventually suffer a 6-4 defeat after extra-time against second division Rillington Athletic.

Braces from Shaun Goodwin and youngster Tommy Day had Athletico 4-1 up, but Rillington battled back with veteran Craig Sanderson bagging a treble and Damian Penny adding a brace.

A Dring hit the target as well for the away side, who after battling back to 4-4 just before the full-time whistle, registered both before and after half-time in extra-time to seal the victory.

DIVISION THREE

SEAMER RESERVES 1 (A Morris) WEST PIER RESERVES 7 (Speight 4, Reid 2, Crawford)

Rob Speight found the back of the net four times as West Pier Reserves romped to a 7-1 win at Seamer.

The sides were level at the break though as Adam Morris cancelled out Speight’s opener.

The away side ran away with it after the break though as Speight bagged three more.

Graham Reid got in on the act as he netted a brace before player-manager Dave Crawford wrapped up the scoring.

CAYTON RESERVES 2 (Barber pen, Knowlson) SCALBY RESERVES 2 (Jordan, Hansell)

Cayton Reserves and Scalby Reserves played out a 2-2 draw.

Scalby led through Karl Hansell’s fortuitous effort and when 16-year-old Taylor Jordan doubled their lead after the break it looked like they were heading for victory.

The home side had other ideas though and James Barber netted from the penalty spot to halve their arrears before Mark Knowlson’s blockbuster strike earned his side a share of the spoils.

WHITBY RFC 6 (Jobling 3, Usher 2, Richardson) COMMERCIAL 1 (Youngson)

A young Commercial side went down 6-1 on their travels at Whitby RFC.

Paul Jobling netted a treble for the home side, with Marc Usher also bagging a brace.

Sam Richardson rounded off their scoring, while Macauley Youngson netted the away side’s solitary strike.

FA JUNIOR CUP

OLD MALTON RESERVES 1 UNITED SPORTS BAR 3 (Rackham, Spivey, Moore)

Mike Keld’s United Sports Bar progressed in the FA Junior Cup after beating Old Malton’s second string on the road.

Craig Rackham, Fadil Spivey and Tim Moore netted the goals for USB, while Georgie Rose was their man of the match in their midfield.

BROOKLYN RESERVES 5-0 WESTOVER WASPS RESERVES

Westover Wasps Reserves collapsed after the half-time interval as they suffered a 5-0 defeat at Brooklyn Reserves.

They were level at the break, but Brooklyn took control after the break and netted five times to take the win.

FALSGRAVE RESERVES 7 ROSEDALE 3

Falsgrave Reserves will be in the hat for the next round after beating Rosedale 7-3 at home.
