THE top two in the division met as Scalby under-11s played host to Phoenix.
Scalby came out of the traps quickly and put pressure on.
Some neat interplay resulted in Scalby taking a quick 2-0 lead in the first 10 minutes through Brad Smith and Miles I’Anson.
The second half was a much more even game with good flowing football from both teams, who used the large pitch to play some lovely passing.
Neither side were able to score in the second half as defences were resolute and in control, Scalby’s star man was Tom Bramham, who was able to do his bit in breaking things down for both his defensive and midfield duties.
Full credit should go to Phoenix, who might have gone under as some other teams have done when going down so early 2-0 to free-flowing Scalby.
Phoenix were a match for Scalby in the second half and showed enough potential to go into the important end of season run in with their heads held high.
Phoenix face a couple of head-to-head matches with Kirkbymoorside to see who is likely to end up as runners-up this season.
Scalby face just two more matches and look likely to retain their league title.
