Scarborough sides face tricky away ties in Saturday Challenge Cup

Scarborough News Saturday League division one title rivals West Pier, Newlands and Edgehill have all been handed tough away trips in the North Riding Saturday Challenge Cup third round draw.

High-flyers West Pier (pictured) have a tricky away fixture at Lealholm from the Eskvale and Cleveland league on December 6.

It should be a close encounter as the hosts lie second in their league behind Lingdale United with six wins from seven. Lealholm thrashed Catterick Rovers 13-0 in the second round.

The first round saw West Pier face Dalton Athletic away from home. West Pier ran out 2-0 winners. In the second round Pier beat Whitby Fisherman’s Society in a goal-fest, winning 10-2.

Newlands travel to Richmond Mavericks of the Teesside League division one.

Mavericks sit fifth in the table with five wins from 12 games. Richmond Mavericks beat Seamer Sports 5-2 in the previous round.

Newlands beat Lingdale United 4-0 in the second round with Drew McCoubrey grabbing a brace.

Edgehill also have an away tie at Staithes Athletic of division two in the Teesside League in which Staithes are fifth with five wins from 10 games, losing four and drawing one. Staithes scraped past Redcar Town to progress from the second round, winning 2-1.

To reach the third round Edgehill brushed Carperby Rovers aside, beating them 9-0.

The second round saw a much tougher test as Edgehill held the nerve in the penalty shootout, beating Kader 5-4.
