SCARBOROUGH Athletic manager Rudy Funk was a happy and relieved man after his side left Selby with a 5-2 win and the three NCEL points.

Boro turned in a tepid performance in the first half, but they hit back after the break with four goals.

Funk said: “We went a goal down in the fourth minute, which wasn’t great.

“The first half just showed that if you make mistakes you get punished.

“At half-time we had a chat and reminded the lads how important it is to play in our red and white colours.

“To play like we did in the first 45 minutes wasn’t good enough when we have so many good lads in our side.

“The took it all on board and came out for the second half in style.

“To score four goals in 45 minutes was just awesome.

Funk was delighted with a number of performances during the 90 minutes, after his side bounced back from a run that saw them pick up three points from four games.

“There were a few things that pleased me on the day. Matty Draper came through 90 minutes and looked good. Paddy Miller and Frank Belt were great. But the lads that stood out for me were Curtis Bernard and Dean Windass.

“Dean’s experience was there for all to see and Curtis’ hat-trick was fantastic. I’m absolutely delighted with him.

“These players are all great signings, but if you look at the squad, we do have a lot of them.

“Tony Hackworth, Paddy Miller, Joe Naylor and Daz Winters are all consistancy at its best.

“The thing is we didn’t go out there and sign these lads blind, we knew the quality that they had and that is why we brought them in.
