SKIPPER Tony Hackworth was your top Scarborough Athletic player of the year.
He collected the Evening News player of the year award on Saturday from deputy sports editor Martin Dowey, having edged out Ryan Blott by just one vote.
The honour was no surprise to Boro boss Rudy Funk, who has been delighted with his captain’s performances this term.
“The award was absolutely spot on, it was the right choice.
“Tony has been a leader in so many departments, right the way down to the private lives fo his fellow players.”
Hackworth is one of a number of players that have progressed from the former Scarborough FC to take their place in the Boro line-up.
Funk added: “It is great for the Scarborough public to realise that their is life after the heartbreak of when Scarborough FC went.
“After the game on Saturday I met a couple of Scarborough people, who just want football to get back to the town and it really moved me.
“This season has been a real learning curve for me, but to challenge at the top of the table has been a good achievement.
“Next season will be a completely different story, we won’t just be challenging.”
