Cayton entertained Eastfield in the opening fixture of the newly-reformed Blue League.

It was the hosts who got off to a flyer, with less than 90 seconds gone Jakob Davies’ persistence paid off when his shot took a deflection and went in.

Eastfield re-grouped and within minutes they were back on level terms, Cayton keeper Nat Drayton mis-judged Benny Davis’ long-range shot and despite his best efforts couldn’t stop the ball bouncing over him.

Ben Atkinson’s powerful run through midfield ended with a cross that Josh Lever headed home to hand Cayton a 2-1 lead at half-time.

Eastfield searched for an equaliser but Cayton were holding out until they failed to clear a corner, the ball finding its way through to an unmarked Jack Mundy to fire home from close range and once again level the scores with 10 minutes remaining.

Eastfield were looking the more likely to get the winner but some last-ditch defending from Cayton’s man of the match Callum Button and a couple of fine one-on-one saves from Drayton made sure both teams walked away with a well deserved point.

Defender Jay Meatheringham and winger Keiran Wade both had excellent games for the home team and were their stand-out performers on the day.
