Organiser Sue Flinton said: “This was part of programme where we work with all the schools in the area and this was the turn of Gladstone Road who showed lots of enthusiasm.

“We had worked previously with Friarage, Northstead and Wheatcroft and it has gone very well.”

The pupils took part in speed bounce, target throw, chest push and long jump activities with the year five pupils acting as judges and scorers.

Flinton added: “This whole programme is about making sporting activities more available for youngsters in schools.

“Some of the sports leaders are selected for their sporting prowess while some are picked just because of their natural leadership qualities.

“It is encouraging that more and more pupils are getting involved in sporting events every year.”
