Former Scalby man Ashley Townley is enjoying his football following his summer move to title-chasing Newlands.
Townley, 24, played for Scalby from the age of eight until the start of this season, but following the Carr Lane club’s relegation to division two last year decided to move on and Shaun Mancrief’s Newlands were quick to snap him up.
Townley has been in top form for his new side despite picking up a knee injury in only his second game, following a hat-trick on his debut at Ryedale.
The utility man went on to score four more goals after returning to action and is hungry for more.
Townley said: “I left Scalby with a heavy heart but I wanted to challenge for leagues and cups and play in big games.
“Shaun has given me the confidence to get forward and go and play and I’ve enjoyed playing for the team.
“I was frustrated to be out injured for a while but I’m glad to be back playing now and I’m looking forward to challenging for the title.
