The Scarborough News Sunday League has been hit by a hefty blow ahead of Wednesday’s AGM.
The league have been forced to ditch plans of the proposed under-21 division, due to a lack of interest from clubs.
Not enough teams committed to the idea before last week’s deadline, so league chairman Mark Plumpton and his fellow committee members decided to call time on the plan.
Plumpton said: “I’m frustrated with the clubs who have expressed an interest from the start and then decided at the last minute not to follow it through.
“The whole thing means that those players in their teams won’t actually be joining a league, which is awful for them.”
Scholes Park and Filey Town, who were set to field under-21 teams, may now move into the Sunday League proper.
