Cayton and Trafalgar are the two remaining sides in the North Riding FA Sunday Cup after the weekend’s action.
Trafalgar’s opponents Globe failed to show for their game, while Cayton edged out fellow Scarborough League side Whitby Wanderers by a 3-2 scoreline.
Cayton had an outstanding strike from Josh Venner to thank for their progression.
With just five minutes of Cayton’s clash with Whitby Wanderers remaining, Venner popped up with a Zlatan Ibrahimovic-style acrobatic back-heeled finish to seal the win.
The teams had gone in level at the break with Harry Holden and the impressive Sam Blake hitting the back of the net for Cayton.
Ayton were undone late in their game against Marcia Bishopthorpe, who scored two late goals to win 2-1.
Ayton led their game until the 85th minute and by that point they should have had the victory in the bag.
With the wind at their backs they battered Bishopthorpe in the first half, but they only had a 40-yard strike from full-back Mike Grayshon to show for their dominance.
More sitters were missed in the second half, before Bishopthorpe levelled matters with five minutes to go.
Then in the last minute, a counter-attack led to a cross-cum-shot floating into the back of the Ayton net to complete the turnaround.
Itis itis exited the competition losing 4-0 to Parklands, despite a battling performance.
The Scarborough side hit the bar three times, but Parklands just seemed to have too much on the day.
Tennyson failed to raise a side for their trip to Oddfellows Thornaby.
