SCARBOROUGH Athletic are set to sign former Hull City frontman Dean Windass.
First team coach Paul Olsson, assistant manager Darren France and Windass are set to meet up tomorrow to conclude a deal.
The 41-year-old striker retired from the professional game almost a year ago, though he has turned out once for Barton Town in the Northern Counties East League first division this term, bagging a hat-trick.
He had previously bagged 200 goals in 640 matches, during a lengthy careerm which included spells at Aberdeen, Bradford, Middlesbrough and of course the Tigers.
Darren France said: “Dean is my brother in law, so I do talk to him a great deal.
“I went to watch him at Barton and you could still tell how good he was. He was head and shoulders above everyone else on the field.
“He does have his commitments with Sky TV, but he is still keen to come down and help us out when we need it.
“He is still a top drawer player, so I’m sure it may add the extra fan or two on to the attendance when he does play.”
Windass will be unavailable to play at Long Eaton United tomorrow, though France does feel that he will be able to fit some games in around his job as a live reporter on Sky’s Soccer Saturday.
