Windass signs up to face Selby

NEW FACE ... Dean Windass will make his Boro debut tomorrow

NEW FACE ... Dean Windass will make his Boro debut tomorrow

EX-Premiership star Dean Windass can’t wait to make his Scarborough Athletic debut this afternoon.

The 42-year-old former Hull, Bradford and Middlesbrough striker signed for Boro yesterday and will take his place on the bench for the game against Selby.

Windass, who is the brother-in-law of Boro assistant boss Darren France, may not be able to play every week due to his commitments with Sky TV, but on his free days then he would be delighted to pull on the red of Boro.

He said: “Darren asked me, I thought about and decided to give it a go. I wouldn’t do it for anyone else apart from Darren.

“I spoke to the manager Rudy Funk and I told him about my commitments with Sky, but I said that I would play if I was free.

“I find out on a Tuesday night what games I will be covering for the week ahead. It all depends what games are on in the north.

“I honestly haven’t missed playing, but I’m sure when I get back in that changing room again with the lads I’ll get the buzz back.

“I train every day and go to the gym, so I have been keeping myself fit.

I played in the game in pre-season as well, but that was different. Scarborough are looking to win the league and that game was a stroll around.

“I don’t want to let the club down and I don’t want to let myself down.”

Dean still has a hurdle or two to jump before the match at Queensgate.

He added: “My only problem at the moment is the fact that I haven’t got any boots.

“My son got injured playing for Huddersfield Academy a week or so ago so I might have to borrow his boots and pads.”
