A hugely inexperienced Scarborough Athletic side edged their way into the quarter-finals of the NCE League Cup on Tuesday night when they won 1-0 at Long Eaton.
A corking Dom Richardson strike was enough to book a passage through to a last eight tie at Thackley.
Boss Rudy Funk was a proud man on the night, as a side including a number of Steve Brennan’s reserves showed some tremendous grit and determination.
He said; “I can only describe our performance as outstanding.
“The passion, desire and the will to play for the Scarborough Athletic colours was just amazing.
“I am proud of the lads and proud of Steve Brennan and his coaches, who have brought them through as a group.
“Long Eaton had their full first team out and they pinned us back in the early stages, but we showed the ability to get the ball down and play.
“In the second half Dom scored a fantastic strike and Rory Skelton in goal produced a great performance to make sure we hung on for the result.”
Having watched many of the reserve players, Funk will have no problem in handing them a call in the future.
He added: “There are so many good young players that we have at this club.
“Having watched many of them against Long Eaton, I won’t have a problem with inviting some of them down to our pre-season training sessions.”
