Last week they had a real battle on their hands at Hullensians where it took an injury-time try from Ben Martin to clinch a narrow 15-8 win.

The home side took an early 5-0 lead but a Matty Jones try converted by Tom Harrison who added a further penalty saw the Seasiders lead 10-5 at the break.

An attritional second half saw the Humbersiders shave the lead to a couple of points with a penalty goal; a real end-to-end final quarter saw Martin snatch the late winner of a dour encounter.

They say ‘a win is a win’ but Lee Douglas’s men will have to improve if they are to come away from Clifton Park with the points on Saturday.

The Seasiders will be looking for a repeat of the result from the first home game of the season when they came out of a hard-fought game on the right side of a 20-17 scoreline.

Graham Hogg and Mikey Readman return to action for this one and young Joe Holliday who made a promising start on the wing at Hull, is also in the squad.

Scrum-half Jordan Wakeham, who left the field injured last week and returned to supply the pass for Ben Martin’s try, is surprisingly in the 18.

The Vikings don’t have a game this weekend, but the Norsemen are in action under floodlights tonight at Pocklington; kick-off 7.30pm.

On Sunday the Valkyries take on Bishop Auckland ladies at Silver Royd at 2pm.

The Scarborough women, who beat ‘Bishop’ 13-12 on the road in their first game of the season, will be full of confidence following their 27-6 win at West Park Leeds II last week.
