The Scarborough News is teaming up with a variety of local sports clubs to inspire the youth of the town as part of the Olympic legacy.

Scarborough’s Olympic project co-ordinator Mitch Cook will be working alongside Scarborough News sports desk duo of Martin Dowey and Daniel Gregory to bring sport to the children.

As well as getting their hands dirty in sports like canoeing, sailing and judo, the trio will also be helping local clubs to run taster sessions in schools.

Cook said: “It is vital after such a fantastic summer of sport that we make sure children in Scarborough get the option to try out sport.

“Not only the recognised sports, but the more unfamiliar sports that have come to the fore in the Olympics.”

Full coverage will start next month.
