JUNIOR REPORT with Tom Harrison
Last Sunday we welcomed back all our mini and junior rugby players for the first training session of 2013.
This Sunday sees almost all our players straight back into the competitive action with Pocklington travelling over to play our under-13s, under-15s and under-16s and the minis hosting their second matrix festival of the season against teams from Beverley and Hornsea.
All junior games kick-off at 11am with the under-16s playing on the main pitch (weather permitting) with the minis starting their fixtures around 10.30am.
On Friday January 25, me and 19 other coaches, referees, players and volunteers have been invited to Headingley to watch England prepare for the forthcoming RBS 6 Nations.
This will be a great opportunity for younger players to watch their idols train and for coaches to pick up new coaching drills and tips.
In the evening there is also a question and answer session with head coach Stuart Lancaster, who attended one of the junior rugby festival weekends which were staged at Scarborough RUFC last year, and a number of other England coaches.
The club have been invited to these events as part of the RFU’s plan to break down the barrier between elite and community rugby by bringing the elite squad away from London.
On Saturday January 26 Scarborough RUFC will host a Leeds Rugby Partnership training morning.
The mixed-code training session is to celebrate the testimonial year of Leeds Rhinos star Danny McGuire.
The morning will include a training session taken by the Leeds’ players and coaching staff followed by a question and answer session.
There will also be a chance for those taking part to get photos and autographs after the session.
The event is open to anybody aged between 10-16.

Within the next few weeks Scarborough RUFC will be running a Rugby Ready course and a referee’s course.
The Rugby Ready course is aimed at parents and other people wanting to take the first step on the coaching ladder.
All club coaches are required to hold at least an RFU level 1 coaching certificate and the Rugby Ready course is the first step on the way to this.
The referee’s course is a 10-hour course split over four weeks which if passed leads to a qualification allowing them to referee full 15 -a-side fixtures.

Finally the Skipton Building Society Schools’ League will resume later this month and each year group will have one more chance to stake a claim for a play-off spot at the end of February .
