In previous weeks I’ve had to reflect on certain aspects of our performance in a negative manner.
It is really, really pleasing to be able talk in a positive fashion after Saturday’s win.
The guys just responded brilliantly to what we asked from them and the second-half performance was superb.
To go 22-0 down by half-time and battle back to win in the way we did is just brilliant.
For one reason or another we didn’t really show up for the first half, whether or not that was travel or not, I’m not sure.
But we changed a few things around just before half-time and had a good chat with a few of the lads at the interval and the guys responded perfectly.
Matty Oxtoby and Ryan Pickering came on just before half-time and they made a real impact.
Their performances were spot on in my eyes and I couldn’t have asked for more from them on the day.
Matty has committed to start coming along to training now, and that is great as he has potential.
The slope obviously played a big part in the game as it is a huge advantage to play downhill like we did in the second half.
But I don’t want that to take anything away from the effort the guys put in throughout the second half.
To say we were missing some really key players on the day just adds to the achievement.
Already missing Phil Watson, to have Nino Cutino, Graeme Jeffrey and Charlie Hoggard out was a real blow.
It was great to see that we’re finally coming round to accepting that it’s going to have to be a squad effort and people will need to chip in throughout the season.
We go into Saturday’s game against table-toppers Doncaster Phoenix with Graeme and Charlie back avaiable, which is a big boost as we’ll need to be at our best to get a result against a good side.
We’ve certainly set the game up perfectly with our second-half effort at Old Brods, let’s carry it on now.
