BENeFit claimed a 26-22 win in a keenly-contested Scarborough Ladies Netball Division Two match against Wheatcroft Aces on Wednesday.

BENeFit have struggled to defeat their opposition so far this season but with some successful attacking play by player of the match Cherene Simmonds (goal attack), they were determined to make the possession of the ball count.

The first quarter was a weak start for BENeFit where they struggled to get into a steady rhythm of passing the ball successfully, and the first quarter ended with Wheatcroft 7-3 ahead .

BENeFit soon found their comfort with the ball and held possession for most of the second quarter with some great midfield passing between centre Jessie Pinder and wing attack Sophie Smith with some successful passes of the ball into the D and, more importantly, behind Wheatcroft’s defence.

By the end of the second quarter BENeFit were losing by just one goal, 10-9, to Wheatcroft.

With BENeFit seeing a win in their grasp, the attackers were determined to make all loose balls count with taking side passes and penalty passes as soon as possible.

By the third quarter they had taken control of the match, and the attacking play with all players supporting each other close by.

BENeFit’s defensive players goal keeper Amy Cook and goal defence Emily Cole’s quick reactions meant that any missed chances by the opposition soon saw the game return to attack with fantastic support by wing defence Mel D’Eath and Pinder.

The third quarter saw BENeFit take the lead 17-15.

Wheatcroft made a quick start to the final quarter with a successful and impressive shot at goal by their goal attack from just inside the D.

This was followed by an equally impressive shot by BENeFit’s goal shooter Stacey Mancrief.

It was end-to-end play for most of the final quarter with both teams fighting for possession and ultimately, goals. BENeFit edged Aces to win the game 26-22 in an exciting and competitive match.
