As Scarborough Indoor Bowling Club member Geoff Bint is the current county president, his club had ther honour of hosting the Yorkshire County IBA finals day on Saturday.

In general the finals were of a very good standard.

The singles, pairs and triples were especially good and in all three cases the victors were decided on the last two or three ends.

And the local spectators had the pleasure of seeing the host club’s young star Jack Bird retain the under-25s sets singles title.

Playing Steve Morrin (Selby), teenager Jack won comfortably with 8-3 and 11-5 results for a 2-0 victory.

John Dudding (Featherstone) won a cliffhanger in the county singles event by beating Dave Stroughair (York) 21-20.

The pairs event between the Selby team of Peter Heslop and Roger Wood and Redcar’s Michael Pluves and Vinnie O’Neill was an excellent game.

It was only decided in Redcar’s favour by the last three bowls played on an extra end after 16-16 after 21 ends.

Huddersfield (Duncan Wilson, Nigel Williams, Jack Dyson) beat Redcar (Roger Godley, Bob Turner, Alan Jones) 19-14 to take the triples final.

Thornaby (Jim Delmer, Bob Watson, Gary Cockerill, Steve Slaughter) powered to a big-margin 26-7 victory in the fours final against Redcar (Roger Godley, Bob Turner, Alan Westwood, Alan Jones), who conceded the game after 18 ends.
