Four Scarborough Athletic Club athletes competed for North Yorkshire Schools at the English Schools Track and Field Championships glory at the Gateshead Stadium.

Bronwen Owen of Lady Lumley’s School led the Intermediate Girls 3,000 metres race from gun to tape, and finished around 50 metres clear of her main rival and the South East Counties champion Bobby Clay who was representing Kent Schools.

Bronwen finished in 9:38.33, which was six seconds faster than the rest.

The talented 15-year-old remains top of the UK rankings for under-17 women, after clocking 9:31.55 last month.

Jack Robertson of Scarborough Sixth Form equalled his personal best time of 1:54.50 when finishing third in the Senior Boys 800 metres heats to qualify for the final.

In the final he was also close to another pb with 1:54.54 when finishing in seventh place.

Jack who is not 17 until later this month, remains the second ranked under-20 man for the distance in the Yorkshire lists.

Leah Millard of Graham came very close to qualifying for the Intermediate Girls 300 metre final when finishing fourth in her heat in a time of 42.36.

Becky Mills of Whitby CC, competed in the Senior Girl’s 1,500 metres steeplechase, settling for 15th place in the final with a time of 5:50.10.

Seventeen-year-old Becky’s qualifying time of 9:34.6 achieved last month, remains the second ranked time in the Yorkshire under-20 womens rankings.
