Commonwealth Games silver medallist Gareth Mills will be handing out the trophies to the area’s top sports stars at the annual Scarborough & District Sports Council Sports Awards ceremony.

Mills, who is a former sports award winner, was a member of the Scottish 4 x 200m freestyle relay team who claimed second place in the Glasgow event this summer.

Scarborough Borough Council sports development officer Matt Hewison said: “There are 19 categories once again this year, we have made a slight change with the Special Achievement category now called the Inclusive Sport award.

“The deadline for nominations for the annual event, which is being held at The Spa Ocean Room on Monday November 24, is a week tomorrow, September 19.

“The form only takes 10 minutes to complete and it is a great way of giving someone the recognition they deserve for what they do.”

Forms are available from Hewison, who is based at the Scarborough Sports Centre on Filey Road, or nominations can be emailed to the Scarborough News sports desk andy.bloomfield@jpress.co.uk
