With one fixture left in Scarborough Mere Angling Club’s Wednesday evening aggregate series, Paul Dawson has taken an unassailable lead.
Dawson has built this advantage in the series thanks to a four-fish win at last week’s 13- peg penultimate event.
His 13lb 4oz finish from yacht pond peg 30 consisted of a solo tench and three carp, two of which found luncheon meat to their liking, while the other two fish fell to pellet.
Pole tactics at 13 metres, including potting in pellets at regular intervals, proved to be the successful tactics which boosted his league points to an unbeatable 78.
With just 12 points on offer to the winner of the final fixture, Paul is already 13 points ahead of the current runner-up Michael Howes who has 65 points.
Result: 1. Paul Dawson 13-4-0 from peg 30; 2. B.Penrose 9-13-0, peg 19; 3. S.Laydon 9-8-0, peg 17; Jt.4. R.Elwood and M.Howes 4-14-0, pegs 6 & 26; 6. B.Hewitt 4-4-0, peg 32.
League standings: Paul Dawson 78 points; Michael Howes 65 points; M.Russell 63 points; B.Hewitt 61 points; S.Laydon 60 points; R.Elwood 46 points.
