EAST Ayton and Newby & Scalby shared top spot in the Dolphins section of the Scarborough & District Primary Schools Year Five and Six swimming gala at Scarborough Indoor Pool.

Wheatcroft won the Sealions section of the gala, just ahead of Barrowcliff, while Hertford Vale scooped top spot in the Sharks category, three points ahead of rivals Hunmanby.

Competitions manager Grant Soames said: “I would like to say a huge thank-you to Pauline Lowry and the students at Scarborough Sixth Form College, who stepped in at the 11th hour to deliver the event.

“I would also like to thank all the club representatives and school staff for their assistance on the day, and for the understanding shown with the late changes.”

Lowry added: “The event was very well-supported and all the children seemed to have a great time.

“Galas such as this give children who maybe don’t get chance to swim with a club the chance to take part in a competitive gala, it is a great experience for them.”
