British Swimming board member and Scarborough Swimming Club’s head honcho Sam Greetham is backing 13-year-old Alex Lynn to mirror the achievements of the club’s recent prospects Ross Glegg and Gareth Mills.

Lynn won the 100m breaststroke and both the 100m and 200m freestyle and came second in the 100m backstroke at the North East Regional Championships at Sheffield’s Ponds Forge pool.

He also managed to pick up bronze medals in the 200m backstroke and 100m butterfly to cap an outstanding effort.

He said: “Alex has every chance of emulating Ross and Gareth. But he is a more complete animal.

“He has done well across the board and is a determined lad. Don’t forget he is coming up against swimmers from the big city clubs.”

Joe Kelly, Nathan Mundey, Emily Harrison and Lizzie Swift also managed top 10 finishes.
