FOR the second year running, Terrington Hall School’s under-12s netball team scooped the title at Durham School’s netball tournament.

The under-12s team, captained by Iona Winn-Darley recovered after an early loss to Durham High School for Girls (3-5) to beat Barnard Castle (9-0), Cundall Manor (8-2), The Chorister School (4-1), Durham School (9-2) and Polam Hall (7-6).

Head of girls’ games and under-12s netball coach Natalie Glen said: ‘The girls managed to put an early defeat to Durham High School behind them.

“They kept their heads up, found their form and bounced back.”

On the same afternoon the under-10s team captained by Amy Foster, competed in Durham’s under-10s netball tournament.

They came in runners-up having beaten Bow School (11-1), Cundall Manor (3-2), the Chorister School (3-1), Polam Hall (6-0) and Red House (4-1), but losing to the eventual winners Durham High School (0-4).

Meanwhile, earlier in the week, the under-11s netball team, captained by Clemmie Preston, were runners-up in Sedbergh’s under-11s netball tournament.

After group stage mataches against Casterton (3-1), Mowden Hall (3-3), Sedbergh B (8-0) and Westville (3-3), and a tight semi-final against St Mary’s Hall (3-3) which went to a golden goal, the under-11s team was defeated by Mowden Hall 4-1.

Coach Glen said: ‘This was a terrific performance from a committed team with some notable individual performances, in particular from Tara Jones, who was voted defender of the tournament and awarded a netball signed by several England netball players.’
