Harriet Stephenson was the star of the show with five of the goals for Scarborough, who only managed to take 10 players to play the clash in West Yorkshire.

Shortly into the game it became clear that both teams lacked drive and determination to go for an all-out attack.

Scarborough merely wanted to hang on to the ball to test the waters, but they met with a less than spirited performance by Halifax.

The in-form Stephenson scored a hat-trick in the first half, the pick of which was her reverse-stick flick over the approaching goalkeeper.

The second half saw a more determined Halifax attacking play, but fortunately for Scarborough, Chloe Cheshire stood her ground.

In fact, Scarborough’s defence kept goalkeeper, Maddy Hill largely out of the game, though she did make a handful of good saves to keep her side clear.

Further goals came from Kelly Brown and Stephenson, who bagged two more to take her tally to five.

Lily Thompson’s attempt on goal was just wide of the target and Scarborough were denied a penalty flick, after a one-on-one when a stick got hooked by a defender in the attacking circle.

Scarborough saw out the game in comfortable fashion to make sure of the victory.

The ladies training is on Wednesdays from 7.30pm to 8.30pm at Scarborough College.
