Fine weather on Sunday saw Borough BC stage a singles merit and Dukes Park’s David Lowe claimed victory for the second year in a row.

Sixty-four players took part in the contest run by Terry Summersgill and Borough president Mick Gates, who presented the awards, paid tribute to him, to GT Garages, the competition sponsors, and to Aston Pharmacy, who are the club’s sponsor.

In the quarter-finals Kevin Gates (Whitby) beat Dave Pryce (Borough) 21-20, David Lowe beat Geoff Watson (Whitby) 21-17, Steve Dover (Whitby) beat Billy Holdsworth (Dukes Park) 21-15 and Russell Hipgrave (Dukes Park) beat Steve Bell (Borough) 21-17.

Lowe beat Dover 21-11 in the semis while Hipgrave beat Gates 21-17.

Both players had some excellent deliveries in the final, but Lowe had the edge over Hipgrave and ran out a worthy 21-14 winner.

On Sunday there will be an open doubles merit competition at Westgate BC, Bridlington, 9.30am start.
