Scarborough Amateur Boxing Club pair Harry Ingle and Andrew Griffiths have been called up to the Yorkshire squad for their trip to fight in the Isle of Man.

It will be Ingle’s third outing for his county, having fought in Guernsey and Dublin this year, while Griffiths will be making his second appearance for the White Rose after boxing against North East Counties.

The pair will fly out on Friday October 28 before boxing on the Saturday.

Harry, 14, will take on Sam Rennie, and Griffiths, 16, fights Tobias Finch.

Harry’s dad Dean is quietly confident he can do the business in his third Yorkshire bout.

“He’s got his head on his boxing now,” said Dean.

“The kid he lost to on a split decision in Dublin is ranked fourth in the world and it was a close fight, so that will give him the confidence he needs going forward.

“Every week he keeps improving, so that’s a good sign.”

Another Scarborough ABC boxer, Justin Rudd, produced a determined display of controlled boxing last week against City of Hull ABC’s Jack Offen in a keenly-contested contest.

Throughout, Rudd demonstrated a high level of discipline behind a strong leading jab and tight defence against the well-supported Offen.

After an even start, Rudd began to land the cleaner and more telling blows as the fight progressed and appeared to seal matters in the final round with some heavy shots to his opponent’s body.

The delight was plain to see on the Scarborough boxer’s face when the unanimous judges decision was announced and he was awarded a deserved points victory from a tough away contest.
