Scarborough’s Jamie Scotter made a huge statement by stopping Polish opponent Przemyslaw Binienda in his professional debut last week - leaving his cousin and former featherweight world champion Paul Ingle more than impressed.

Ingle, who enjoyed a glittering career as both an amateur and a professional, was quick to sing the praises of the ruthless Scotter.

A delighted Ingle said: “I was well impressed with Jamie’s performance.

“It’s a tough thing to do to go out on your pro debut, you want to do so well for the people who have bought tickets and come out to support you and the pressure is on.

“But he handled it well and got the job done against a kid that I thought might be a bit dangerous for his debut.”

Ingle, who famously lifted the IBF and IBO featherweight world titles as well as the British, European and Commonwealth straps, is expecting Scotter to start picking up titles of his own soon.

“I’m convinced he’ll win a British title,” Ingle declared.

“After that, that’s up to how much Jamie wants it and how much he puts into his boxing.

“He has a lot of experience from his amateur career and he’ll be able to use that going forward.”
